Hall Introduction

We Care, We Share.

In our hall, the qualities that we treasure most are harmony and passion. After a long day of lectures and tutorials, you might want to find a place that makes you feel peaceful and comfortable. Suen Chi Sun Hall is just like a home in The University of Hong Kong. People here are kind, nice and caring. We treat every hall-mate as our family member. We dine together, we laugh together, we play together and we even sleep together. Although our hall-mates are from different faculties, different countries and hold different religious beliefs, there is a strong unity among us. This is simply because we believe that WE ARE ALL SUNNIANS.

Suen Chi Sun Hall is also a place full of opportunities. As our hall offers a wide range of Cultural, Sports and civil education (including Social Services and Current Affairs) activities, hall-mates have the opportunity to try out new things and develop their own interest. Suen Chi Sun Hall is a place where all hall-mates work and play hard together. Having all Sunians as companions, we can surely overcome all the sweat and tears and leave a beautiful memory.
Although we live in the same building, we differ a lot on interests and talents. However different we are, we share the same goal. As mentioned in our cheers, SUNNIANS WE FIGHT AS ONE. This is us, this is Sunnian, and this is Suen Chi Sun Hall.

The door of Suen Chi Sun Hall is always open to all of you.

Welcome Home.
Hall Education
Since the establishment of the University of Hong Kong (HKU), halls of residence have long been the tradition of the University. Apart from providing accommodation for students, they serve as an important component of the education system. As hall members have to learn to be independent and interact closely with students of different backgrounds under the same roof, Hall Education is a very effective means to integrate students' social and intellectual lives, Hence, it makes a well-rounded education for university students possible.

The importance of hall education is acknowledged both by the Government and the University.  Last year, the Consultation Document on the Aims of Education listed "enhancing residential experiences", "enhancing the cultural dimensions in hall lives", and "re-designing the living environments in students' halls of residence" as strategies to train leadership skills and promote the physical and cultural capacities of the undergraduates.

Halls of HKU are devoted to the development of their members.  Hall members are encouraged to take full advantage of this precious opportunity to actively engage in various hall activities so as to develop their personal capabilities (e.g. leadership skills), personalities, communication and social skills, as well as their intellectual abilities.

Halls of HKU are well-known for their strong hall spirit.  Each hall has its own tradition, culture, and unique characteristics. No wonder why members identify very strongly with their halls.  Through developing a sense of belonging and commitment to the hall, students will therefore develop a similar sense of commitment to the society.
A Hall is never a Dorm!
Both the Halls and student hostels provide you with comfy accommodation, and a certain number of activities throughout a year. However, a Hall provides you with much more than that! Below are experiences that you can hardly gain from student hostels, except from a Hall in HKU.

Commitment and Growth
There is a wide variety of activities within a hall for you to choose from. No matter what activity you participate in, you will have loads of fun. At the same time, to live in a Hall, long-term commitment is needed. Apart from all the joyful moments in your hall life, there are tough times too. During demanding weeks when hall commitments clash with deadlines and midterm exams, dare to challenge your limitations! Hardship is always accompanied with personal growth. It is an amazing experience that you will not regret!
Challenge and Chance
Be it a team member of new ball games, a Cultural Team person-in-charge or a Floor Representative, you can find endless challenges in a Hall. The Hall offers many roles you have never tried. You might not be perfect for that role at the beginning. Yet, Hall is a place for you to challenge your limitations. Grab your chance to grow and shine!
Bonding and Memory
The moment you check in, you become an irreplaceable part of our family. New faces start to emerge in your life. You will develop lifelong friendships with your Hall Orientation group-mates, floor-mates, teammates and Organizations Committee members. As time goes by, together you will learn to overcome insurmountable odds and challenges. You might not succeed every time, but we guarantee you will share amazing memories with your friends.
Unlike secondary schools, students seldom linger for long after a lecture in university, so university life with just lectures and tutorials might not leave you a deep impression. After a few years when you graduate from the University of Hong Kong, what will be left for you to savor in the future? Your best memories of the University will be associated with the Hall, for instance, High Tables Dinners, floor hangouts and basically all the crazy adventures you had with your hall-mates throughout the year.
